NEW YORK — Rafael Nadal says he and his family are’very well’ after the birth of his first child. The Spanish professional tennis player was admitted to the hospital Monday night after having a C-section. Nadal became the first player to give birth while competing in a Tour championship. Nadal was born four months premature and delivered by C-section on Aug. 7, The Times said. He will travel with his mother, Elena, to the United States after the birth. The hospital where he delivered was the same one that delivered Nadal’s older siblings. Nadal’s mother was admitted to the hospital on Aug. 7 after experiencing a stroke, according to the Times. Nadal said Monday that the stroke likely had a serious neurological impact on his mother. She remains hospitalized. “It’s very important to me that she’s healthy and is continuing her treatment,” Nadal told reporters at the media tour. “I’m very, very happy. I’m very excited.” Nadal said he was still having contractions Monday night but expects to be released in about 24 hours. He said he had no other information on the birth of his first child. The Times had no further comments from Nadal
